SOMOS is a four-year curriculum utilizing the Comprehensible Input (CI) method, a research-backed approach to language learning. Comprehensible input means that students understand approximately 90% of the language used, with the remaining 10% being new and not yet familiar. The program aims to foster long-term language mastery at a pace suitable for each student. Teaching is primarily through storytelling in Spanish, which helps enhance students' communication skills. The curriculum also integrates linguistic and cultural elements vital for grasping the context and application of the Spanish language. The main curriculum used is Somos 1, by The Comprehensible Classroom. As students progress through middle school and enhance their Spanish skills, they gain increased opportunities to engage in conversation and explore the language and culture more deeply. The highlight of their Spanish education is a trip to a Spanish-speaking region, where they can immerse themselves in the language and participate in community service. In recent years, students have traveled to destinations like Costa Rica and Puerto Rico. The choice of travel location is determined by global travel conditions and available service opportunities.
